How many of your members are planning a nice vacation this year? Of those, how many are saving money for that trip in a Vacation Club account at your credit union? If you are like most credit unions, the answer is, “not as many as there should be.”
Why is that? Usually it is because these accounts are not effectively marketed by the credit union. Many members just don’t know about these accounts. They don’t know how easy it is to set one up and to have money automatically deposited into the account so that, when the time comes, they have the funds they need to enjoy the vacation they have planned and are looking forward to.
These accounts are so convenient and are a great service that your members can benefit from. So how do you get members to open up these accounts? You must “sell” them through traditional and non-traditional advertising methods.
Put an article in your newsletter; create a statement stuffer, even offer a FREE GIFT (linked to Ad Specialties) to every member who opens up a new Vacation Club account during a specific month or period of time. Use your imagination! Have your tellers wear Hawaiian shirts on one of your busiest days and cross sell them while they have the members right there in front of them. The sky is the limit. Be creative! Have fun with it and serve your members at the same time. Talk about a win-win situation… you build a stronger relationship with your member while they develop a regular savings habit!
Vacation Club checks and receipts are another great way to advertise this fantastic service. CU ink offers a full line of these fun and exciting checks and receipts for your credit union core processing system.
